What Is Built, What Is Coming: Bangalore's Major Infrastructure in October 2026

Big infrastructure promises shape how Bangaloreans choose where to buy, yet the promises are not all at the same point. Some roads already carry cars, others are half built, and a few exist as a line on a plan. Here are nine of them, described as of the first week of October 2026, with the stage placed ahead of the hype.
Early Signs: What Is Open Today
Two NHAI highways can be driven in part already, and Hoskote is where they meet.
Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR)
A loop of roughly 280.8 km is planned around the satellite towns, spanning Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The first 80 km, which opened in March 2024, begins at Dobbaspet and ends at Hoskote, passing Doddaballapura and Devanahalli. A further 21 km beyond Hoskote is almost ready, held back by a railway overbridge.
When it opens, traffic can flow without a break in the Dobbaspet to Hosur direction, and the airport becomes quicker to reach from Hosur. The western and southern parts of the loop are further back. Treat the road near Magadi, Ramanagara and Kanakapura as a proposal.
Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway
About 262 km long, this expressway joins Hoskote and Sriperumbudur across three states, namely Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The Karnataka part, 71 km up to Bethamangala, was opened in December 2024. Andhra Pradesh has since added 25 km, so a run of nearly 100 km is continuous from the Hoskote end.
Disputes over land and the relocation of power lines have slowed the remaining Tamil Nadu sections. Completion dates have been revised again and again. For residents around Hoskote or along Old Madras Road, today's benefit is a better route towards Kolar and eastwards.
Metro and Rail Being Built
All three programmes below have run behind earlier targets. Progress on site is a better indicator than a date on a hoarding.
Metro: the Pink Line and the Blue Line
Spanning roughly 21 km and 18 stations, the Pink Line joins Nagawara in the north with Kalena Agrahara, off Bannerghatta Road. The first six stations, all elevated and ending at Tavarekere, are complete and in early October 2026 were still due their statutory safety inspection. The underground part under MG Road and Shivajinagar is for later.
Running 58.19 km with 30 stations, the Blue Line has Central Silk Board and the airport as its two ends, calling at Hebbal and KR Pura. BMRCL now plans to start service on the stretch from Silk Board as far as KR Pura in 2027. Airport trains come in a further stage.
Suburban rail
K-RIDE is building four corridors that add up to about 148 km. One heads to Devanahalli, one links Baiyappanahalli with Chikkabanavara, one joins Kengeri and Whitefield, and one connects Heelalige and Rajanukunte. Of these, the 25 km Baiyappanahalli line is nearest to completion, though its opening date has shifted before.
The remaining three are at earlier points. When a project is pitched on suburban rail access, ask which line is meant and if any work has started.
Approved on Paper, Waiting for Contractors
Three road schemes have sanctions and funds but little visible construction. Contracts and land acquisition will decide how fast they move.
Bengaluru Business Corridor
Once called the Peripheral Ring Road, this is a 74 km project of BDA, the Bangalore Development Authority. It is to curve through the north and east, linking Tumakuru Road with Hosur Road and taking in junctions with Old Madras Road, as well as Ballari Road.
A first contract of Rs. 3,348 crore, for roughly 20 km and 36 months, was given in June 2026 for the part covering Tumakuru Road up to Ballari Road. Land is the stumbling block elsewhere, though the state has approved higher compensation for 948 acres. Since the awarded part is in the north, North Bangalore has the clearest case.
Outer Ring Road makeover
The sanctioned Rs. 450 crore upgrade of 17 km of the Outer Ring Road has been divided into two packages. One runs from Silk Board to Iblur (Rs. 143 crore, 5.44 km), while the other takes in the 11.57 km up to KR Puram for Rs. 307 crore. Bus stops, utility ducts, drains, junctions, cycle lanes and footpaths are part of the plan. The longer tender closed in July 2026.
Tunnel road from Hebbal to Silk Board
Against a state estimate of Rs. 17,698 crore for the 16.75 km tunnel, the cheapest of the December 2025 bids was Rs. 22,267 crore. The contract had yet to be given out as this article was written. The shorter junction tunnel at Hebbal is a different scheme, whose foundation stone went down in June 2026.
Still Only Proposals
An Intermediate Ring Road of 210 km first appeared as a suggestion in 2007. In April 2026 the state brought the plan back, along nearly the same alignment. It touches Devanahalli and Hoskote in the north-east, Harohalli and Bidadi in the south-west, and Nelamangala, Dommasandra and Anekal on the way. Phases will be built by BMRDA.
Announced in September 2024, KWIN City is intended as a 5,800-acre district of universities, research institutions and health care between Dobbaspet and Doddaballapura. Land acquisition has barely begun, and farmers have protested. A plot bought on either promise may mean a long wait.
Putting It to Use
Value from an open project can be checked by driving it. A project under construction delivers its value later, with a chance of delay. A plan should barely move the price paid now.
Before relying on any claim, put these three questions.
- Is the road or line usable, in progress or just announced?
- Is there a chosen contractor and acquired land?
- Does the home work without that project?
Answers can differ even inside one area. Devanahalli and Sarjapura Road both feature in more than one of these plans, each at a stage of its own. Our team can tell you what is already open near any project listed here.
