Whitefield Gets a 539-Bed Aster Hospital: What the Women and Children's Wing Means for Home Buyers

Whitefield's hospital map has changed. Aster DM Healthcare put Rs. 96 crore into a 159-bed unit for women and children. It opened in April 2026, and the hospital now counts 539 beds against 380 before. For anyone choosing a home on the east side of the city, the wing is a useful new point of reference, and the sections below explain why.
The Hospital and Its Surroundings
Aster Whitefield Hospital occupies a site at Kadugodi (pin code 560066), in the Sadaramangala Industrial Area and directly across ITPL Main Road. ITPL and the residential neighbourhoods of Whitefield are minutes away. Several approach roads lead to it, notably from Hoodi, Mahadevapura and Varthur Road.
The nearest station is Whitefield, at the end of the Purple Line, which is also in Kadugodi. Many visitors from East Bangalore and the centre can therefore travel by metro instead of driving.
What Is in the New Wing
The wing has been named Aster Women & Children and works as a dedicated unit within the campus. It follows patients from the first thought of pregnancy through delivery, and then looks after infants and older children. The state's health minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, cut the ribbon, and the Assembly Speaker, U.T. Khader, attended.
Seven services stand out.
- Maternity care from before conception to birth, with water births on offer
- Keyhole gynaecology, and a centre for fertility
- Medicine and surgery for the unborn child
- A level 3A intensive care unit for newborn babies
- Operations for babies and children
- Paediatric intensive care with high dependency beds
- A child development centre
Reading It as a Home Buyer
People who buy homes check school ratings and commute times first, and quite rightly. Health care deserves the same attention, since it is maternity and children's services that families lean on most often. A neonatal unit of this level near home can ease a lot of worry before a baby arrives, and it is useful again through the early years of childhood, when fevers and minor injuries are frequent.
The area had good hospital options before this, such as Manipal Hospital Whitefield on ITPL Main Road. Aster has widened them with specialist care for mothers and young patients. Together with the nearby schools, offices and shopping, it gives Whitefield a fuller family profile. For a couple comparing East Bangalore with other parts of the city, that depth of care is a practical reason to look closely at this belt.
Neighbourhoods in Reach
Distance from ITPL and Kadugodi shapes how useful the hospital is, so the closest areas come first. Whitefield and Kadugodi lead. After them come Hoodi and Mahadevapura on the metro corridor, then Varthur and the road towards Sarjapur, and finally KR Puram with Old Madras Road to the west.
Minutes matter more than kilometres here. Driving from a project at the busiest hour of the day shows what the trip really involves, and a second try after dark shows what an emergency would feel like. Those two test drives say more than any brochure distance.
The Wider Aster Network
The group also operates two other hospitals in the city: Aster CMI up north at Hebbal and Aster RV down south at JP Nagar. Larger additions are in the pipeline, namely 500 beds at Yeshwantpur and 430 on Sarjapur Road. With Whitefield counted in, Aster's total capacity in Karnataka comes to 2,573 beds.
For the south-east of Bangalore, the Sarjapur Road project is the one to follow. Residents there will rely on Whitefield and the Outer Ring Road hospitals until it opens, so the extra beds at Aster Whitefield help them too.
Questions to Ask Before Deciding
Medical access is one input among many, and four questions help to size it up.
- How long does the trip to the nearest large hospital take at rush hour and late at night?
- Do the hospitals around offer emergency, maternity and paediatric departments?
- Does the family's health insurance cover them?
- Is there a second good hospital within reach?
Tell our team what the household needs and homes in East Bangalore near medical care, schools and workplaces will be lined up. A project visit can be planned to pass the closest hospitals and schools on the way.
